Sunday May 4th was a very emotionally charged day for a lot of people in the city of Toronto. Our Toronto Raptors fell short in a game 7 first round match up to the Brooklyn Nets in a close contest. Nonetheless, hip-hop to the rescue once again! A living underground legend was in town to TURN UP for the city and show his love and gratitude to his Canadian fans. Bun B of UGK performed at the Hoxton in front of an energetic crowd that were treated to some classics cuts along with some current material from the Trill OG veteran. The Hoxton reached a fever pitch when the Houston MC performed the hit record, International Players Anthem after speaking about the city. During the song (as I entered the venue) the Global ambassador himself and OVO general, Drake graced the stage with his always welcoming, “unexpected” surprise appearances. Both artists embraced one another, offered some words to the crowd and prior to Drizzy’s exit, gave a shout-out to the Raptor players that were in attendance before leaving the stage to Bun. Aside from seeing Bun at the very first OVO Festival years prior, it was pretty amazing seeing one of the original kings of the south in our northern abode after so many years in the game who always keeps it true and trill.
